CHURCH HISTORY
The theme verse for Oak Heights Covenant Church is Isaiah 61:3, "They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor." From the beginning, this church has been a planting of God. We began as a pioneer church plant in 1993, with the help of four neighboring Covenant Churches within a 40-mile radius of Hutchinson. From the start, we sensed that the church would only begin through the grace and power of God.
Our first major milestone came on Palm Sunday, April 9, 1995 when we held our first public worship with some 150 people in attendance. Soon after that day, 45 people became charter members of the church. Since that time, the family of Oak Heights has seen God work in many wonderful ways. Attendance and membership has steadily increased and many people have made first time and renewed commitments to Christ, and ministry opportunities have multiplied.
The next major stage of development was the purchase of 10 acres of land on the corner of South Grade Road and School Road to be the future building site of the church. In the summer of 2000, we prayed and broke ground for the building. We held our first worship service in the new building on August 4, 2002 followed by our dedication Sunday on September 8, 2002.
Our mission as a church is to discover and develop our full potential in Jesus Christ. We seek to do this by reaching up to God in faith and reaching out to people in His love. We seek to reach up by growing in our own walk with Christ and we seek to reach out by sharing the "Good News" of Jesus Christ with others. It is because of our strong roots that we look to the future with anticipation and excitement as we continue to trust the goodness and faithfulness of our God.
