People of the Story

Hello to each of you in the name of our Lord Jesus. My family and I are very excited to be new at Oak Heights Church and in this fine town. Thank you for your warm welcome!  If you are new to Oak Heights or are going to be visiting, I welcome you and hope to encourage you in your journey of faith.

   The Harrises come to Hutchinson across the prairies from ‘big city’ Calgary, Alberta where I served eight years as pastor of Kensington Road Covenant Church. I studied in seminary at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia after serving three years as full time CE director of Harvard Covenant in Tacoma. Earlier I taught grade 7-12 science and math at a Christian school, I designed and built boats back in the 80's. I grew up in New England and have lived in several towns and cities across North America and even in Taiwan. But my story really began with God calling me to faith in His only Son Jesus.

   Once we all stumbled and fell in the darkness that is outside the knowledge of God in Christ Jesus, where so many people still wander today. But God in His great mercy calls everyone out of darkness into His wonderful light!  The way out of darkness is Jesus himself, the 'Light of the world.'

   Once, Oak Heights was not a gathering of believers, but now we are God’s family, God’s people at Oak Heights. The Bible says when we repent of sin and come to faith in Jesus Christ, we become 'priests' for God… a holy people belonging to God. Each of us comes to Oak Heights with a faith story of God's grace and call on our lives. These are stories worth sharing. We are stories that praise Him.

   I have rejoiced hearing about the beginning of this church. Now I'm eager to hear your stories of the love and mercy of God in your lives. As we grow together this season, let’s declare His praises to one another in worship, and share them with those who still walk in darkness, that they too may come into the Light of Christ.
